Finding the highest contour value from different load cases and exporting the contour values.
If there are several load cases, it is tedious to find, what the maximum value is for each loadcase and record which loadcases cause the maximum displacement, stress, etc…
Advanced query in HyperView lets you figure out the maximum contour value for each loadcase / location of the (element, node, and component) and export the same information to .CSV or HTML format…..
Apply Gravity to only certain parts of a model.
When using the GRAV card in OptiStruct, the gravity load is applied to the entire structure and it is not possible to apply gravity load to a part/component of the model directly.
Here is a work around to apply gravity load to only a part/component of the structure. Change the material density to zero where you don’t need gravity load to be applied and retain material density to the parts/component where you want gravity load to act…..
Creating contacts between components takes sufficient amount time. To create a contact
between two components first you have to define contacts surfaces or entity sets, then create
an interface and reference the contact surfaces for master and slave and card edit the interface
to define what type of contact is necessary…..
Managing the size of local coordinate system in HyperView.
For better visualization, one may have to increase or reduce the size of the local coordinate system during post-processing. HyperView allows such an option i.e. to either increase or decrease the size of the coordinate system……
Topic Objective: Constrain direction of X,Y or Z component.
Using SPCs one can constrain both the directions of a translational DoF on a node. This will not help if one direction is necessary to be set free and other constrained.
Here is a workaround to constrain one direction and set the other free. For example block a DOF in the ‘minus x direction’ and the other set free to move…..
